・About the exhibition
Gallery ‘Nokogiri' (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) will present ‘Watashi Wa Koko / I AM HERE', a solo exhibition by Marianne Hallberg, a Swedish ceramic artist. This exhibition follows ‘Marianne Wa Dare? / Who is Marianne? ' held in April 2022 as an opening show of ‘Nokogiri'. The work she creates is always in the present, always where she currently is. No matter how far away in her memory the motifs come from, it is transformed into ‘who I am now'. There is no past tense in her work. It’s like we are in a village where the only thing the villagers have in common is Marianne. We, who have wandered into such a village will find signs from her in everything we see. And just when we are about to reach her, we lose her. And then we will realize; this resembles my own memory. We live in the same endless dream . Does this sense of déjà vu come from the prehistoric times, when all human beings were one? That flower is my emblem, that skull is my portrait. Then I hear another voice saying “DON'T WORRY”. At the end of the day, we are all friends. Don't worry, you are just fine by the way you are. But remember, you will never get to see her, because you are Marianne from the very beginning.
In this exhibition, you will see Marianne's eternal theme “Be Kind!” appear in more than 30 works of art in various forms. There will also be a shop in the corner that offers the dream souvenirs.
