・About the exhibition
The gallery NOKOGIRI is holding an exhibition of the work of Swedish ceramic artist Lisa Larson. Lisa is also known for her graphic design work, including the cat 'Mikey', but this exhibition will focus on her core business - ceramics. She began her career as a designer at Gustavsberg in its heyday, after she was discovered by Swedish ceramic master Stig Lindberg. She always created shapes that could be mass-produced in a factory, and these brought great commercial success and made many people happy. This gave rise to the vice of the pure art world's stubborn refusal to recognise her as an artist. However, her genius was unmatched in her originality, which was always pop and commercial, but never lost any of her authorship. Lisa, on the other hand, also produced numerous one-offs, "I naturally know which parts of work I need to shape and how to shape, to make my original modeling suitable for mass production. It's my special ability", she later said, and it is in factory mass production that her genius lies. From the inconvenience of commercial mass production, she has created tremendous freedom. This exhibition traces the dream of a genius who has never lost her pride and passion as an expressionist.
